Best in Suspense: Binge Worthy Summer Book Series (Part 1)

Summer is here. School is out, life might slow down for a bit. Plus, vacation time means a chance to kick back and grab a great suspense novel.

We live in a Netflix world of binge-watching entire seasons of our favorite TV shows, sometimes sadly in one sitting. The Netflix “Are you still watching?” pop up makes me feel like the laziest person on the planet. Um, yeah, Netflix. I may have just watched 12 back-to-back episodes of Friends, but I would like to continue on.

So this summer, I say let’s binge read entire series! Start with book one. If you like action, spies, FBI investigations, and mysteries, this list is for you. Here are my favorite recommendations, so start with book one, grab a cup of coffee, and let the binge-reading begin.

If I Run Series by Terri Blackstock

For fans of suspense, murder mystery, chase scenes, and memorable characters

One of my most favorite suspense series. Book 1 is If I Run, and you need to read this series in order. Written in first person with two viewpoints, the series follows Casey Cox. All signs point to her in the murder of her friend, and Casey flees to buy time to prove her innocence. Dylan Roberts is tasked with finding Casey, but questions Casey’s guilt in the crime. This is a fast paced, intriguing story. The whole series is out so you don’t have to worry about cliff hangers. It’s a pretty intense series, and will keep you flipping pages until the third book ends.

Chesapeake Valor Series – Cold Shot by Dani Pettrey

For fans of romantic suspense, police investigations, terrorist plots, and danger

The Chesapeake Valor series has four books, all out so you don’t have to worry about cliff hangers. This series keeps threads of the same crime and characters running throughout four books. There’s lots of action and dangers. Cold Shot introduces Griff, Declan and Parker – all college friends who find themselves all working in some aspect of law enforcement. And all of them find themselves in life and death danger more times that I could count! Excellent series for suspense, action, with romances blooming in the midst of things. With four books, you really get to know the characters.

Book one is available on Kindle Unlimited, but only the first in the series.

FBI Houston Series – Firewall by DiAnn Mills

For fans of romantic suspense, FBI investigations, technology, terrorist plots, and non-stop action

Firewall (Book 1) puts the reader smack dab in the middle of an action with an airport bombing, and the pace doesn’t slow down. Firewall follows Taryn Young, who realizes her life is in danger and that the bomb was meant to end her life. She teams with Grayson Hall, the FBI agent trying to bring down a terrorist. The rest of the series follows FBI agents as they investigate crimes. Great for fans of FBI investigations and lots of action.

Discarded Heroes Series – Nightshade by Ronie Kendig

For fans of romantic suspense, military stories, terrorist plots, and action

The Discarded Heroes series tells the story of an elite military team. Book 1 is Nightshade and tells the story of Max Jacobs. His military career has put his marriage on the rocks. I love the series at each character in the group is highlighted in a different book. Plenty of suspense and action, but also some tender moments as these military fighters struggle between their call to duty and the lives they leave behind.

Book 1 is available for Kindle Unlimited so you can try it out, but you will probably be hooked.

Part 2 of this list will have more recommendations for binge-worthy series. I have plenty of favorites to recommend. Don’t see your favorite series on the list? Comment below. I’m going on a cruise this summer, so I’m looking for books to bring.
