Every Deadly Suspicion by Janice Cantore is a fantastic small-town suspense story. Hanna Keyes is the police chief in Dry Oaks, CA. The town has so many secrets – like what happened 30 years ago when her father was sent to prison for murder? Hanna faces off with the past while chasing a serial killer in the present. She joins forces with her ex, Jared Hodges, to help her piece together a mystery spanning her entire life.

I’m a big Cantore fan. I find her police procedurals intriguing and true-to-life, and in Every Deadly Suspicion, the characters and plot had me hooked from the beginning. Hanna goes from no relationship with her father to being thrown together with the accused murderer who holds the keys to her investigation. With lots of red herring and twists and turns, Every Deadly Suspicion had me trying to solve the mystery right along side of Hanna. The story isn’t heavy on the romance side of romantic suspense, but that’s fine with me. There’s still enough sparks between Hanna and firefighter Jared Hodges to keep romance fans happy.

One Final Target by Janice Cantore is a fast-paced suspense story that will hook you from start to finish. I enjoy stories that race against the clock to stop a killer, and this story delivers action, suspense, and emotion. Jodie King has faced one tragedy after another, and it seems that a killer is after her. But why? And who is behind it? Because all the clues point towards the killer being someone she knows. She meets Sam Gresham who helps her track down a killer while trying to stay alive.

I loved this book! Both Jodie and Sam are struggling with past traumas, and they form an instant connection. But with the danger surrounding them, they need to find out the identity of the killer before someone else dies. I highly recommend this for fans of suspense.

Bonus points for the audiobook –I thought the narrator did a good job of mixing the drama and emotion with the high action scenes. I highly recommend the audiobook for this story.

Breach of Honor with coffee latte art

Breach of Honor by Janice Cantore gives readers insight into the inner workings of small-town police. Leah Radcliffe and her husband work for the department, but Brad has a bad temper and Leah hides his abuse from others. Leah is caught up in clearing her name after a self-defense shooting, with most of the town turning against her.

This story isn’t as action-packed as some of Cantore’s other novels. Lots of suspense in trying to figure out who the good guys are vs the bad guys. But a lot of the story deals with Leah’s transformation. When everyone is against her and she’s in the darkest of circumstances, she realizes who she can trust and turns to God. The message is heavy on the spiritual aspects and internal struggles of Leah to find hope in the midst of some terrifying circumstances. There’s a budding romance with fellow officer Clint, one of the few people that believes Leah’s innocence.

Definitely a good story, though the topic is a heavy one with the subject of domestic abuse. Janice Cantore’s novels are always so realistic as she puts much of her police experience into the pages. This is definitely an intense read, but one with a message of hope weaved throughout.

Overall Rating:
4 stars (I liked it a lot and would definitely recommend)

Suspense Rating:
4 stars (lots of action and suspense to keep me intrigued)
