Target Acquired by Lynette Eason is my favorite read of the summer! This thrilling, non-stop run-for-your-life story centers on Kenzie King. She’s the only female on the SWAT team and someone isn’t happy she’s on the team. Cole Garrison tries to figure out the mystery behind a series of attacks against Kenzie, while he fights his feelings for her.

This is the first Eason novel where she writes in dual timelines. I loved how the mystery from the past connected to the current story. It made the whole story so much deeper. And I loved Kenzie and Cole’s relationship, as well as how Kenzie has to unravel her own family drama. This is a fantastic series and I can’t wait for book three!

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

For fans of thrillers, plot twists, and danger

Double Take by Lynette Eason will take your breath away. It kicks off what promises to be an intense and action-packed series!

Lainie Jackson is seeing ghosts. After her stalker ex was killed, Lainie starts seeing him pop up in places. But he’s dead, right? Police detective James Cross, also her childhood crush, comes to her rescue to make sure her ex can’t hurt her, whether he’s alive or dead.

Double Take brings action and suspense with every flip of the page. I love James and his over-protective family. But James has some relationship issues to deal with and Lainie needs to learn to trust again. I love the high stakes physical danger and emotional drama woven throughout the story and I can’t wait for more in this series!

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Countdown by Lynette Eason offers readers an intriguing thrill ride! Raina Price isn’t who she says she is. She’s been on the run for years, hiding from a stalker. But she comes out of hiding, with the help of US Marshal Vincent Corelli, to protect someone innocent. And once she steps into the light, she becomes a target.

I love this story. There’s quite a bit of drama which adds to the suspense. Readers will go on a journey to uncover the truth about what happened to Raina as she and Vince race to stop a killer from striking again. The romance adds a nice balance, as it’s not rushed. Raina’s been in hiding for so long, she doesn’t know how to let anyone into her life.

The entire Extreme Measures series is fantastic but be sure to check out Countdown and clear your calendar for the weekend. You won’t want to put this novel down.

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Counter Attack by Patricia Bradley is as intense as it gets! Alex Stone takes a job in her hometown as the interim sheriff, but a serial killer is targeting women that look like her. Police Chief Nathan Landry is her ex-boyfriend, and sparks fly when they both take on the task of stopping a serial killer in his tracks.

I love the intensity of the story and I do like second chance tropes. Alex and Nathan make a great couple as Alex does a lot of soul searching throughout the story and realizes what she truly wants in life. Sometimes we must let go of our dreams for something better. But this story has lots of action and suspense – you know a story is good when the main characters are frequent flyers at the local hospital!

Definitely add Counter Attack to your summer reading list!

Blind Trust by Natalie Walters brings a nice mix of both suspense and romance. Lila Fox and Nicolas Garcia have obviously had a thing for each other since Lights Out. But Nic can’t stand watching Lila run headfirst into danger. When she becomes a target, he steps in as her protector, whether she likes it or not.

I love this story along with the entire series. Lila has always been one of the more fascinating characters. She’s bold, opinionated, and speaks fluent sarcasm – the opposite of reserved Nic. Readers have a front row seat to the inner workings of Nic and Lila’s relationship as they grow closer together while being dragged into an international investigation. Danger and romance blend perfectly together in Blind Trust.  I love how this book ties into the prequel novella, Initium, concluding an epic series.

Be sure to check out Blind Trust, but if you haven’t read the others in the series, start with Initium and read them all.

Under Fire by Lynn H. Blackburn brings action and excitement on every page. If you’ve read the first two books in the Defend and Protect series, you know Special Agents Tessa Reed and Zane Thacker well. These two have danced around a relationship for two books! Under Fire is finally their story.

Tessa and Zane are tasked with protecting the president on a trip to Raleigh, NC. But someone targets Tessa, and Zane steps in to protect her. But the two struggle to overcome the obstacles to their relationship.

I love this story! It has all the feels mixed with life-and-death action and suspense. Because this is book three, I feel like I know these characters. The story is fast paced, but emotions run deep. You could probably read this as a stand-alone, but the entire series is fantastic and it may make more sense to start with Unknown Threat. This is one of my favorite series and don’t forget the novella (Deadly Objective in the Targeted collection).

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Critical Threat by Lynette Eason is the third installment in the Extreme Measures series – and this one is extreme! It’s a must-read for suspense and thriller fans.

Grace Billingsley is an FBI behavioral analyst and creates profiles for serial killers. While tracking a killer, he sets his sights on Grace. Sam Monroe is a psychiatrist who specializes in serial killers because his father was one. Grace and Sam team up to stop the killings.

This book as so many twists and turns. Sam is an interesting character because he’s a single dad with two teenagers and must manage a home and a stress-filled demanding job. He also carries a lot of baggage from his father’s actions. Grace also balances her family with her job, and they both feel the pressure of a killer who is so bold to show his many faces to get Grace’s attention.

Definitely check this book out if you like action-packed, intense stories.

Targeted https://bestinsuspense.com/review/targeted/ Wed, 26 Oct 2022 16:03:10 +0000 https://bestinsuspense.com/?post_type=rcno_review&p=2922 I’m generally not a fan of novellas, because I always want a longer story. I’m generally not a fan of novellas, because I always want a longer story. But these three authors make novellas come alive for compact, exciting and intricate reads. And readers get to see more of their favorite characters. And it’s in one volume, so you get all three stories. Annnnd you won’t want to miss out!

In On the Run by Lynette Eason, readers get more Daria Nevsky! She first appears in Vow of Justice, and eventually works for the FBI as an analyst. Except she’s now a target. Her past comes back to haunt her as someone with ties to her criminal father surface and she goes on the run. After an accident, she winds up in the hospital where she meets Dr. Ryker Donahue (remember him from Hostile Intent?) Ryker refuses to let Daria be alone in her plight and helps to keep her safe while she puts the pieces together to discover why she’s the target. You can’t beat the action and suspense in this story right from page one.

In Deadly Objective, Lynn H. Blackburn tells the story of Emily Dixon (Gil is her brother from Malicious Intent.) Emily is a physical therapist that is assigned to work with the vice president’s son. Secret Service Agent Liam Harper is also assigned to the vice president’s son and intervenes when the family is attacked. I love the chemistry between the two main characters as they try to get to know each other while surrounded by danger on all sides.

In Caught in the Crosshairs, Natalie Walters gives Claudia Gallegos the spotlight. Her sister is Pecca Gallegos from Silent Shadows. Claudia is a CIA agent, but things go awry when she walks in on the murder of a foreign dignitary. Ari Blackman is a colleague in the CIA assigned to help her, but Claudia isn’t one to trust anyone, let alone Ari with the reputation for being a bit of a player. But Ari manages to save her life on more than one occasion and gradually works his way into her heart. Plenty of action and suspense blends nicely with the romance to make this a fantastic story.

Be sure to check out Targeted to get three amazing stories filled with action, suspense, and heart.

I received an ebook review copy of this book through Revell and NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Body of Evidence by Irene Hannon is the third in the Triple Threat series. While the entire series is a must-read, you can probably jump in with Body of Evidence and keep up. The series focuses on three sisters, and this is Grace Reilly’s story. Hers is probably the most fascinating out of her sister’s stories in that Grace is a forensic pathologist. She took a lot of grief from her sisters in past books for choosing to hang out with dead bodies on a Saturday night rather than go out with, you know, the living.

Grace takes a job in a rural county and starts to see a pattern develop when a few elderly people die. She suspects foul play, but there isn’t enough conclusive evidence. She meets Sherriff Nate Cox, who believes her. Sparks fly between the two as they try to prove that something nefarious is happening in their small town.

I love this series, so of course Body of Evidence hit my wish list as far as a “must-read” story. The mystery took me a while to unravel, and I love Grace’s spunk. My favorite scenes are when she gets together with her sisters. Their camaraderie is quite entertaining.

If you are looking for a fast-paced and enjoyable book to kick off your fall, look no further than Body of Evidence on October 4th.

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
