The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey gives readers a non-stop thrill ride. This story focuses on Noah Rowley (Gabby’s brother from The Killing Tide) who is a Coast Guard Investigator. He’s called to investigate a mass shooting, where Brooke Kesler is caught up in the action. She’s a fight medic and has to treat one of the shooters. But when he utters something to her, she becomes a target. Now Noah has to stop the bad guys and protect Brooke, the woman he’s secretly loved for a while.

I love the action and suspense of this story. There are so many layers and it’s intriguing to follow the CGIS team at work. Plus Noah and Brooke start to explore their relationship in the midst of the drama. There’s a lot of romance in this story, as a subplot has Caleb and Austin also fighting feelings while leading a separate investigation. There’s so much packed into one novel, but it all works brilliantly to give readers so much excitement and tension. The whole series is fantastic, but I think this is my favorite one because of the intensity of both the drama and the romance.  High stakes all the way from page one to the ending! Also, this series has fabulous covers, and yes I judge books by their covers all the time.

For fans of action, romantic suspense and coastal settings

The Crushing Depths by Dani Pettrey is non-stop action from start to finish. This is the second in the series, but probably could be read as a stand-alone (but if you follow me, you know I refuse to read a series out of order.) Someone is sabotaging an oil rig. An old curse surfaces as CGIS agents Mason Rogers and Rissi Dawson search for answers as the body count rises higher than the tides. Meanwhile Noah Rowley finds himself in an adventure of his own as he tries to protect Brooke from a stalker.

Mason and Rissi’s story dials up the emotional intensity as they share a very broken childhood together, but lost touch over the years after Rissi disappeared to flee the bad situation. Mason resurfaces in the prior book, The Killing Tide, and Rissi finds herself fighting old feelings. The two are paired up on the oil rig investigation and sparks fly. I loved Rissi from The Killing Tide, and her reconnection to Mason is filled with all kinds of romantic tension. Based on their shared past, their feelings don’t take long to surface.  And Noah also has a love interest of his own. But outside of the developing relationships, the storyline is quite complex and kept me hooked to the end trying to figure out not only the culprit but the motivation behind all of the attacks. The book does a great job of blending the romance with the suspense of all of the investigations the CGIS agents are working.

I highly recommend this series for romantic suspense fans. There’s just so much action and suspense packed into this novel along with characters readers will love.

Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense: 5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)

For
fans of danger, intrigue, and then more danger

The
Killing Tide

delivers fast-paced suspense and action from the very first page. Investigator journalist
Gabby Rowley is attacked and her life is on the line. With the help of her
brother, Noah, and Coast Guard Investigator Finn Walker, Gabby moves back to
her small town roots and drops off the grid. But she loves a good
investigation, and soon finds herself in perilous situations as she seeks justice
when her friend’s husband is murdered.

The
Killing Tide

is complex and thrilling. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, which
made it hard to get into at first. But I’ve never read a novel where the
characters face one life threatening situation after another. There are drug lords,
murders, explosions, shoot-outs, conspiracies, underwater attacks, poisonous
snakes, you name it, Dani Pettrey throws it at Gabby and Finn and the rest of
the investigation team! But in the midst of life-threatening situations, Gabby
and Finn begin to rekindle their romance making it a sweet tale in the midst of
tragedies.

I definitely
recommend adding this to your reading list. Pre-order The Killing Tide
now as it comes out 8/6. This it the first in a series, and you don’t want to
miss this action-packed over the top exciting summer read, because there is
more to come.
