Trapped in Yosemite by Dana Mentink is everything you’d expect from the name…peril, earthquakes, and run-for-your life danger. Stella Rivers is attacked, while at the same time an earthquake wreaks havoc in the mountains of Yosemite. But an unlikely hero steps in—her ex-boyfriend, Von Sharp. Together they help rescue people trapped in the snow-covered mountains while dodging bullets from someone intent on killing Stella.

This book has everything for suspense fans. Lots of drama and danger. Anyone who reads Love Inspired Suspense will love this trade book, which is a longer version of a Love Inspired Suspense. There’s lots of time to fall in love the characters, and so many characters have big secrets to hide. I love a good “who-dun-it” story, and with everyone being trapped on the mountain, you know that one of them has to be behind the death threats. Everyone is a suspect, and the author did a great job of weaving in secrets and betrayals to keep readers guessing to the very end.

Alaskan Avalanche Escape by Darlene L. Turner dials up the action to an explosive level. Jayla Hoyt and her search and rescue golden retriever Hercules search for survivors after an avalanche. Bryson Clarke finds evidence that someone caused the avalanches, and he and Jayla investigate. But their history makes them unlikely partners to stop a crime. She doesn’t trust Bryson, but when the enemy targets Jayla and Hercules, they are forced to work together as the threats escalate.

I love this complex story. There’s plenty of danger, but also readers get to see how both Jayla and Bryson have to overcome past hurts that plague them both. I love the balance of the action and the romance. Also, the scenery adds to the suspense of the story, which is set on the border between Alaska and Canada. Of course, S&R dog Herc steals the show!

Definitely pick up your copy of Alaskan Avalanche Escape when it is available on February 21st.

The Record Keeper by Charles Martin is the third installment of the Murphy Shepherd series. I highly recommend reading the series in order or you’ll miss key parts. This story centers around Bones – where he came from and what he overcame to lead an operation that rescues people from human slavery/trafficking. This story is dark and intense, but Martin weaves such powerful themes of hope, freedom, and salvation throughout every word on the page.

The Record Keeper follows Murphy as he tracks down Bones. He hires a new team of hackers to help him scour the earth to find his friend and mentor. I love the new characters (and hope maybe some of them get a spin-off series of their own someday.) And many characters return from the previous stories (like Summer, Clay, and Gunner.) But just like the first two in the series, this story has lots of action and intense moments that kept a suspense fan like me hooked. I appreciate the overall themes of The Record Keeper. The sacrifices both Bones and Murphy make to find the lost and forgotten is powerful.

The whole series is so well done! This releases on July 5th – and what better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a story about a Shepherd seeking that one lost sheep, bringing freedom to the hopeless and lost.

Laura Scott’s Rocky Mountain Standoff gives readers a suspenseful ride. Judge Sidney Logan is being targeted because of her upcoming trial, and the criminals will do anything to stop the trial. Sidney goes on the run with the help of the US Marshals. Tanner Wilcox pulls out all the stops to keep Sidney safe, but he comes to care about the judge and her almost-adopted baby.

This story is action-packed. Explosions, shootouts, and plenty of plot twists kept me turning pages. Despite the constant threat of danger, readers really get to know the characters. Sidney isn’t the tough as nails rule oriented judge as she first appears. Tanner makes the perfect hero, putting his life on the line several times to save Sidney and Lily. And the banter between Tanner and his partner Colt keeps things light-hearted in the midst of the drama.

I enjoyed both Hiding His Holiday Witness and Rocky Mountain Standoff (Books 4 & 5 in the Justice Seekers series.) I hope the series continues because I’d love to read a story about Colt.

Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley gives readers another mystery set in Natchez, Mississippi. Ainsley Beaumont is definitely in someone’s crosshairs. She is sent to her hometown of Natchez to investigate a murder, but finds herself in the middle of several mysteries, not to mention a killer that wants her dead. Lincoln Steele joins her in the investigation, but also to protect her.

I like the complex layers of the story. Someone’s after Ainsley, but is it the murderer from her current investigation, a former inmate she put in prison, or someone who is after some recently discovered diaries her great aunt found? As the story unfolds, Ainsley and Linc’s relationship rekindles. Both have some regrets from the past, and the danger brings them closer together.

I highly recommend this story if you like complex plots, investigative stories, killers on the loose, and suspense!

Lights Out by Natalie Walters is a must-read for suspense fans. Brynn Taylor is a CIA analyst who is tracking a missing person with ties to terrorism, but things heat up when she’s forced to work with the SNAP (Strategic Neutralization and Protection) Agency. Her ex-boyfriend, Jack Hudson, happens to be on the SNAP team. They pair up, dodge danger, and try to piece dangerous clues together to figure out how to keep America safe.

I love this introduction to the SNAP team! I always enjoy quirky characters and this rag-tag team of analysts and spies brings the story to life. We get to meet Kekoa, the Hawaiian hacker who adds lots of humor to the team, and Lyla, the sassy analyst with plenty to say. The relationship between Jack and Brynn creates explosive tension as they are thrown together and have to deal with their past to keep moving forward in the investigation.

While all the action and suspense make this a fast-paced novel, the author finds time for readers to get to know the characters. My favorite scene is Lyla’s birthday party. Readers will fall in love with the characters while getting a thrilling story.

Oh, and don’t miss the prequel novella, Initium. It gives a lot of details on how the team came together. Definitely check this out!

Hiding His Holiday Witness by Laura Scott gives readers plenty of action and danger. Robyn Lowry is a witness for a case involving an arms dealer, only the bad guys don’t want her to testify. Someone breaks into the safe house, and by the time US Marshal Slade Brooks finds Robyn, she’s fallen and hit her head. She can’t remember anything about the US Marshals, the case, or her past. Worse, the attacks keep coming and Slade and his partner go on the run with a witness who doesn’t remember anything.

I enjoyed this story. I’ve never read anything by Laura Scott and found this story action-packed and intriguing. Of course, I love action and there are plenty of plot twists and suspenseful moments that kept me flipping pages well past my bedtime. I also liked the romantic sparks between Robyn and Slade. If you are looking for a fast-paced story filled with memorable characters, look no further.

Danger Never Sleeps Book Cover and latte with hearts

Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason brings the action and suspense. Book four of the Danger Never Sleep Series focuses on Ava Jackson’s story. She’s dealing with her father’s death and her mother’s failing health. But things take a turn when someone tries to kidnap her. FBI Special Agent Caden Denning’s case intersects with Ava’s attack when her father’s job is linked to a series of murders. Ava (literally) has to put together the pieces to figure out the details of her father’s super-secret life.

This is one of my favorite series, but book four has to be the most intense and action-packed of them all.  I love stories about strong woman, and Ava knows how to defend herself. She isn’t a damsel in distress, but Caden has a knack for showing up at the exact right time. The two make a great team. But the action takes center stage in this book. Lots of life-or-death situations mix with an intriguing plotline to create this non-stop thrill ride.

You don’t have to read the books in this series in order, but I recommend it. The entire series is fantastic, with action, suspense, and a bit of romance.

The only downside is that I didn’t want the book to end. Here’s to hoping for a Hostile Intent sequel or spin off series.
