The Libyan Diversion by Joel C. Rosenberg gives readers more Marcus Ryker! This is a fabulous series, one of my favorites, and I recommend starting with the Kremlin Conspiracy, because there are a lot of characters to keep track of and it helps to read in order (not required, but highly recommended.)

Marcus is on the hunt for terrorists. A radical terrorist cell is killing Americans, but it’s all smoke and mirrors. They are plotting a big attack on American soil, and it’s up to Marcus to convince the president of the danger. But Marcus is being blamed for a bombing that didn’t go right, one where innocent people were killed.

This novel is nail biting intense. Of course, it always comes down to the wire as Marcus tries to save the country. I love that this series is on par with Jack Ryan or Jack Reacher – one lone man takes on the toughest most vile terrorists to defend the innocent. I hope the series continues.

Broker of Lies by Steven James gives readers an intricate story with non-stop action. Told from multiple points of view, the story focuses on Travis Brock, who has a super high clearance level with the Pentagon. He knows a lot of secrets but one alludes him: the truth about the fire that killed his wife. He teams up with Adira, who works on a different secret government project known as the Red Team. Together they uncover a potential terrorist attack but become targets as they go on the run.

I love this fast-paced story. I wasn’t sure I would like so many points of view, but it worked well to keep the edgy pacing and it was intriguing to see both hero and villain points of view. Travis and Adira made a great team and are both interesting characters, what with Travis’ eidetic memory, and Adira’s job of trying to smuggle weapons to test airport security.

Check out Broker of Lies for a thrilling story from start to finish.

For fans of political thrillers, intense suspense, and life or death situations

The Jerusalem Assassin is the third novel in the Marcus Ryker series by Joel C. Rosenberg. It would be helpful to start with the The Kremlin Conspiracy first so you can understand the characters and situations. But Ryker is back in action as he tries to protect the president during a trip to Israel. So many people plot against the peace summit that Ryker has his hands full with trying to figure out who is behind the latest terrorist group, Kairos, and how to stop their evil reign of terror.

The Jerusalem Assassin gives reader all of the high-speed thrills and somersaulting plot twist that the prior two novels contained. The author never shies away from taking on some big topics like terrorism and the Middle East. I’ve been a fan of the whole series, and this one has the same sense of urgency and danger as the prior two. Marcus Ryker makes the best action hero, always knowing the right way out of danger. I wished Oleg Kraskin had a bigger part in this novel, but he definitely makes an appearance or two.

I highly recommend the series to all of the action and suspense fans out there. You won’t be disappointed!

Overall Rating: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)

This is the first novel I’ve read from Joel C. Rosenberg, and I’m not sure why I waited so long. Talk about suspense!

The Kremlin Conspiracy centers around two intersecting lives. Marcus Ryker is a former Secret Service agent who finds himself center stage as he tries to stop a war before it starts. Oleg Kraskin is the Russian president’s son in law and confidant who doesn’t agree with the president’s plans that would ignite war on a global scale. Both men serve their countries as they try to prevent a world crisis.

“How could he keep silent in the face of evil? How could he live with himself by burying the truth so deep or ignoring it so completely that it could ‘rise up a thousandfold in the future?'”

The Kremlin Conspiracy

The action and characters in this novel rival Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series. A very intricate plot line gives way to lots of tension and twists. The story starts the reader on the journey of how Marcus Ryker becomes key in defending the country. The characters are so intense that readers are drawn into their lives. The author is able to fill the reader in on a lot of back story without bogging the pace of the novel down. The first few chapters set the stage for the rest of the novel, and things begin to connect up later on from the very beginning. Just noting this because at first the story seemed like several unrelated stories, and it took me a bit to get into it. So keep reading! The only warning I have is that this ends abruptly in a cliff hanger, so I’m glad The Persian Gamble came out this week!
