I read a lot, and I also read across a wide range of genres. Psychological thrillers aren’t always my favorite, mainly because if a book is labeled “psychological” I expect certain things in that genre – an unreliable narrator, crazy plot twists, and not knowing what’s happening at any given point in the story until the end when the pieces fall into place. Most seem to fall short for me – maybe it’s a great story, but it doesn’t seem to have that edge that gets in my head and makes me question my own sanity along with the characters’. But Jessica R. Patch nails the psychological thriller with The Other Sister. This is what a psychological thriller should be!

We have Charlotte, and she’s a bit unreliable. We know she tries to be good, but has a dark past and is known for pretending to be someone she isn’t. When she discovers that she has a twin sister, rich socialite Acelynn, Charlotte winds up assuming her life. But what she finds is that Aceylynn’s life is complicated and very dark.

We also have lots of plot twists. The story took me down several paths only to leave me with whip lash. I couldn’t possibly guess the ending. The characters are all a bit unhinged and any one of them could be the bad guys of the story. I love Jessica’s story telling abilities and they way she reveals just enough information to string me along until the payoff at the end. And it’s a fantastic ending. This isn’t a traditional romantic suspense where everything is wrapped up neatly with a bow by the end. This thriller will have you thinking about the story long after you’ve put the book down. Get ready to binge read in one sitting!

For fans of nail-biting suspense, plot twists, and intriguing characters

Fire Storm is the sequel to Mind Games, and if you haven’t read this, I highly recommend it. Best not to read this series out of order. I loved Mind Games as hoped Fire Storm would deliver the same high action suspense. I was not disappointed in the least!

Fire Storm starts off with Kaley heading to Nebraska to help take care of her ailing mother. Of course, all of her family drama weighs on her, and she immediately becomes involved in an off-book investigation. A serial arsonist is on the loose and Kaley begins to work up his profile.

Fire Storm delves deeper into Kaley’s character, and readers see her internal struggles with her relationships, especially with her mom but also Noah. How can she trust anyone after her tumultuous past? Kaley struggles with how overly-dedicated she is to her profession, at the risk of hurting others in her life.

This fabulous suspense tale that takes you into the mind of an arsonist as Kaley works to hunt down the villain. If you love intricate story lines with surprising twists and turns, be sure to pre-order your copy of Fire Storm (release date is 8/6). If you haven’t read Mind Games, definitely start with this – it’s one of my all-time favorites and if you are a fan of suspense, both novels will give you a thrilling, action-packed story that leaves you desperate for the next installment.

Mind Games by Nancy Mehl

For fans of psychological thrillers: the name of the book rings true. The intricate plot plays with your mind and you’ll still be thinking about the book long after you finish it.  The chase for a serial killer is on, but Kaley Quinn’s method of investigation is unique. Now she’s the target and teams up with FBI agent Noah Hunter to try to get one step ahead of the killer by solving twisted riddles.

So many red herrings and plot twists, you’ll be guessing who the killer is until the last page. You’ll suspect every character in the book by the end. The story is intense and the intrigue pulls you in. Warning: you’ll stay up way to late wanting to read until the very last page.
