I’ve never read anything by Maggie K. Black, and after reading Crime Scene Secrets, I want to go back and read all her prior books.

Crime Scene Secrets takes place in a rural mountain setting where Ophelia Clarke is attending a family wedding. When shots are fired at the rehearsal dinner, Ophelia contacts FBI agent Kyle West. She knows he’s close by (a classic scene, I won’t spoil it) and he arrives to help her process the scene. But they soon realize that there is a murderer on the loose.

This story has it all – action, suspense, heart, grit, intrigue, lovable characters, a working dog, and a touch of humor. I love the meddling aunt trying to set up Ophelia. I also listened to this one on audio and I loved the narrator! She made the story come to life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense.

Lethal Reunion by Lacey Baker gives readers an intriguing mystery from page one! Halle Jefferson heads back home to her high school reunion, but someone isn’t happy about her return. After receiving a threating phone call–not to mention the gunshot at the reunion– Halle reunites with Kyle Briscoe. He’s the new sheriff in town and now he’s going to protect his high school  ex-girlfriend at all costs. With Halle’s twin sister’s murder still unsolved, it looks like the killer might strike again.

This is a fast-paced suspense story. I love that the book starts in the heart of the action and takes readers on an exciting journey to find the killer. The chemistry between Lacey and Kyle is explosive. And I love the mountain setting in the Blue Ridge mountains.  Check out Lethal Reunion if you are a fan of romantic suspense.

The Vanished by Cara Putman is a delightful and intriguing mystery. Janae Simmons moves back to her small town and teams up with museum director Carter Montgomery. He’s her first client in her new law practice, and mystery surrounds several paintings over the original ownership. But what’s more intriguing is the artwork Janae finds stashed away in her late grandfather’s house. Priceless artwork that had become spoils of war. And whenever money is involved, the criminals come out to play.

This isn’t a fast-paced, run-for-your life novel, but I love how the story unfolds. Both Janae and Carter have to deal with their past issues, and I love their character arc. Both fight for justice and want to do the right things even if they are the hard things. I also find the art history interesting.

Check out The Vanishing for an intriguing read. I’m hoping it’s a series because I want more (and maybe Chloe or Margeaux’s story!)

Colorado Double Cross by Jennifer Pierce keeps readers dangling on the edge of suspense for the entire novel. DEA Agent Nick Anderson is undercover in a drug cartel. Much to his surprise, he runs into Alexis White, his deceased partner’s wife, as she snoops around the drug compound. He rescues her, and the pair run for their lives. Somehow the drug dealers are one step ahead of the DEA, and Nick and Alexis suspect a mole in the agency.

I love the non-stop action and suspense in this story. I’ve always been a fan of the run-for-your-life trope, but Pierce brings a depth to the characters while readers get to race along side the pair to solve a mystery. If you love romantic suspense, heart-racing action, and great mountain scenery, look no further than Colorado Double Cross.

Vanishing Legacy by Kate Angelo takes Lynette Eason’s amazing Elite Guardians series and moves the bodyguards to Savannah, GA. And the action and suspense will leave readers breathless and wanting more!

Alana Flores is new in town, but that doesn’t stop her from rushing into danger to protect her clients. When she meets Cash Thomas, she must protect his daughter Penny. Someone is determined to kidnap the girl. But it’s Alana’s heart that needs protection to keep her from falling for the handsome surgeon and his daughter while they all face the danger head on.

I love the action in this story. Alana is fierce when it comes to defending the people she loves. But I enjoy getting to see her softer side come out throughout the story. Cash is a fabulous hero, giving up everything to protect his daughter.

If you love romantic suspense, action, plot twists, and amazing characters, look no further than Vanishing Legacy! I’m still thinking about this book long after I’ve finished. Having been mentored by Eason, Angelo keeps that same high-octane energy level that Lynette Eason is known for and gives readers an amazing start to the new Elite Guardians: Savannah series.

One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey is the first book in the Jefferson Falls series. And if you are a fan of Pettrey’s novels, you know she delivers fantastic suspense mixed with romance. One Wrong Move is a complex story, featuring two mysteries for readers to unravel.

First, Christian O’Brady meets insurance investigator Andi Forester at a crime scene…a heist! Stolen artwork and heists are Andi’s forte and Christian was the man responsible for the security system at the art gallery. They team up and soon learn that someone is willing to take extreme measures to keep them from investigating. In a separate mystery (not even a subplot, but another completely separate investigation), FBI Analyst Harper Grace sets out to prove that her bestie Andi didn’t botch an investigation, an event that ruined Andi’s career with the FBI. She teams up with Christian’s brother, Deckard, who is a PI who thought Andi was guilty of negligence. They pair up and become a target as someone doesn’t want them to learn the truth of what really happened.

I love the two mysteries. Usually one becomes a subplot, but the author gives equal amount of time to both mysteries and readers get to see the romance sparks for both Christian/Andi and Deckard/Harper. If you love mysteries with lots of red herrings, you’ll love One Wrong Move. There are a lot of suspects with plenty of intriguing characters to choose from. Plus, the romance plays out really well in this story, with all of the characters having secret pasts of their own.

This is an exciting start to the series! Definitely check it out if you are a fan of romantic suspense.

Trapped in Yosemite by Dana Mentink is everything you’d expect from the name…peril, earthquakes, and run-for-your life danger. This book has everything for suspense fans. Lots of drama and danger. Anyone who reads Love Inspired Suspense will love this trade book, which is a longer version of a Love Inspired Suspense. There’s lots of time to fall in love the characters, and so many characters have big secrets to hide. I love a good “who-dun-it” story, and with everyone being trapped on the mountain, you know that one of them has to be behind the death threats. Everyone is a suspect, and the author did a great job of weaving in secrets and betrayals to keep readers guessing to the very end.

Fragile Designs by Colleen Coble has become one of my favorites from the author. Colleen writes suspense mixed with romance and family drama – and this family has plenty of secrets to keep suspense fans up all night.

Carly Harris is a widow. Her husband was murdered, leaving Carly and their son Noah behind. But the mystery behind the murder remains…until Carly discovers what the killer was after – a rare and priceless find in Carly’s possession. The only person she can trust with the secret find is Lucas Bennett, her not-so-friendly neighbor and police detective. But as danger escalates, colossal secrets are revealed and the couple fights to the end to protect Carly’s family.

I loved this book from start to finish. Just when you think you’ve figured it all out – BAM – another twist knocks you over or a crazy secret changes the whole story. I love a good family drama, and this has a host of crazy family members, relationship drama, and tension woven throughout. I’ve always been a fan of Colleen Coble, but this one is going down as one of my favorites.

Definitely check out Fragile Designs. For audiobook fans: I thought the narrator really brought the story to life. I recommend the audio version, and I’m picky about my narrators so this was a win for me. Karen Peakes did a great job with it!

But James has some relationship issues to deal with and Lainie needs to learn to trust again. I love the high stakes physical danger and emotional drama woven throughout the story and I can’t wait for more in this series!

Crime Scene Conspiracy is the perfect blend of suspense and romance. Stone Spencer is a former Texas Ranger who started a crime scene cleaning business with his brothers. Emily O’Connell is a Texas Ranger on a covert mission. She suspects that a string of deaths, including Stone’s sister, might be the work of a murderer but made to look like accidents/suicide. Stone joins the investigation, but someone wants to silence them both.

This book is one of my new favorites! It has suspense with every flip of the page, but Emily gets introduced to the Spencer family. She’d initially blown off Stone’s advances, but spending time at his ranch thaws her heart towards him. I love Stones’ brothers – Rhode and Bridge. I am so excited that this will be a series. I assume the brothers will have their own stories and the author has set them up nicely. I can’t wait for more.

This story will intrigue suspense fans with plot twists and heart-warming characters. This is high up on my Must Read list!
