Secrets in the Mist by Morgan Busse is perfect for fans of dystopian fantasy (think Hunger Games.) I’m not always a fan of YA but have found Morgan’s stories riveting adventure rides for the young and not-so-young. I loved the Ravenwood saga and Secrets in the Mist brings that same intriguing setting and fabulous heroes and heroines fighting for their own survival, not to mention the fate all of civilization.
Readers will quickly fall in love with Cass, who is struggling to survive on her own after losing her parents in a purge. A deadly mist has moved humankind up into the mountains, and only those with money and power are the ones who can survive. But Cass catches a break and gets a job as a diver on the airship Daedalus. But when Theo Winchester from the upper echelon hires her to take a job to uncover some family hidden secrets, things become deadly for them both.
I love the mystery, intrigue, and scenery that Morgan creates. I’m always transported into other worlds with her stories and the life-or-death suspense keeps me hooked. The characters are noble and heart-warming, and of course the only down-side is the cliff hangers leading into book two! I highly recommend the audio version – the narration and storytelling brought the story to life.
